Introduction to writing your life story, and Part 1 of the course.

The Story of Your Life

How    to write it in 15 easy steps

Introduction

Hello, and welcome! You are considering the idea of writing the story of your life, and this book is designed to help you to do just that in 15 easy steps.

Autobiography writing has become very popular in recent years in many parts of the world, and in fact, in the U.K. we are rather lagging behind places like Australia and North America. I have done a lot of research during the preparation of this course, and there is a wealth of information on the subject, both books and courses, from those two areas.

Much of the information that I came across that had been written in Britain turned out to be very expensive. I have included references to some of these at the end of this book, so check them out for yourself. Even though following the simple steps given in this book will give you all the information you need to complete an attractive and interesting record of your life, if you are anything like me you will want to explore other resources as well.

This book is concise, giving you the guidance that you need without having to wade through a lot of tedious text. Where I have included examples of other people’s work I have kept them as short as possible. None of them are essential to following the main text, so just skim through them, or skip them altogether if you wish. Some people may want to read through the whole book first, and then come back to the starting point and work through it at your own pace. Inevitably some of the steps will take longer to complete than others, but once you get started there is nothing to stop you working on more than one section simultaneously as it can all be gathered together and put in correct order when you are nearing completion.

There was a period of my life when I ran a typing service from home, and I typed quite a few manuscripts from people writing their own stories, and most of them made fascinating reading. In doing this work I learnt a great deal about the various ways people tackled this rather daunting project.   You may be wondering, have I written my own life story? Yes, I have! I hope this will give you confidence, knowing that I have walked the road before you, and understand many of the ups and downs of this amazing journey.
